About us

The Ascot District Day Centre, now called The Chandler Club at the Ascot Day Centre, has been providing a welcoming social environment for individuals over 55 in the Ascot area since 1975. Our goal is to create a place where people can connect with others in similar circumstances and access activities that support their independence.

We decided to name our social club, the Chandler Club at the Ascot Day Centre, in honour of our main founder, Dr Chandler. We are run by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, as a social club, not a care facility. Our members affectionately refer to the Day Centre as 'The Club', and we are proud to continue Dr Chandler's legacy through our community activities and programmes.

The Chandler Club offers morning coffee, a delicious home-cooked two-course lunch, and afternoon tea. Our calendar is filled with engaging activities, such as seated dance, seated Zumba, visits from a hairdresser and chiropodist, card games, bingo and more. We also organise occasional outings and have been to exciting places like Ascot Racecourse, Coworth Park and Hayling Island.

PROGRAMME

A TYPICAL DAY AT THE CHANDLER CLUB

  • We open at 10am.

  • People who come with their own transport start arriving from this time.

  • The buses return at around 10.30am with people who have been picked up locally (Sunninghill, South Ascot, North Ascot and Sunningdale).

  • Once everyone is in, morning coffee/tea is served.

  • Most people tend to have a chat with their friends, but some others will play cards or another game.

  • At 11.30am there is seated dance, which some members will take part in (this is done in the dining area of the centre).

  • Around 12.15pm a two-course hot home-made lunch is served. Lunch can be roast beef, lasagne, fish and chips, sausage casserole or other classic food. Puddings on the menu range from eves pudding, Eton mess, sticky toffee pudding to cheesecake.

  • There is a raffle with prizes such as biscuits, jam or flowers.

  • In the afternoon some people take part in a few games of bingo or play cards.

  • At 3pm the buses leave to take people home and we close after that.
